Creating a Data Source Name

In this exercise, you will create a Data Source Name for the Northwind database that will be used in later exercises.

1. From the Windows Control Panel, double-click 32bit ODBC .
2. When using Windows NT 4.0, the icon will read ODBC .
3. Select the System DSN tab.
4. Click Add .
5. Select Microsoft Access Driver and click Finish .
6. Enter a Data Source Name of nwind .
7. Click Select and browse for the Northwind database, WA\Practice\nwind.mdb .
8. Click OK to exit from the ODBC Data Source Administrator .
9. Development tools, such as Visual Basic and Web management tools, such as FrontPage can now access the Northwind database.
