Microsoft Windows Architecture for Developers Training Kit

Network protocols are used to connect client computers to a server. A network protocol, which is a language that computers use to share data, is required in either an Internet or intranet environment. The Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the underlying network protocol used over the Internet. TCP/IP can also be used on an intranet, although other networking protocols, such as NetBEUI, are designed specifically for LANs. This lesson describes the TCP/IP protocol, and explains how to configure and troubleshoot it. It also explains how to use FTP to transfer files over the internet.
