Sometimes, you might decide at the last moment that you want to cancel a print job. The way you cancel a print job depends on whether background printing is turned on. By default, Word activates background printing, which means that you can continue working while you print a document. To change this setting, choose Tools, Options, click the Print tab, and then clear the Background Printing check box. To halt printing from within Word while your computer is sending a document to the printer, follow one of these two procedures:

You can also manage your print jobs after you have sent them to the printer by using the print queue window. To display the print queue window, double-click the Printer icon on the taskbar in the Microsoft Windows user interface after you've sent a document to the printer.
