If you find that you've modified the styles in your Normal template but you'd like to revert to Word's default settings, you can do so easily. To restore Word's default Normal.dot template, close Word and rename the Normal file (usually located in \%UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates). You should rename the file with a recognizable name, such as Normal2 or OLD_Normal; do not delete the Normal.dot file. After you rename the Normal file, Word will create a new Normal.dot file the next time you open Word. The new Normal file will contain the default Normal template settings.
Tip | Locate the Normal.dot template To find the Normal template, you can look in the File Locations tab in the Options dialog box. The File Locations tab shows abbreviated versions of the locations of user template files. To see the complete path to the Templates folder, choose Tools, Options, click the File Locations tab, select User Templates, and then click Modify. In the Modify Location dialog box, click the Look In list box to view the path to your templates. |
