One of the most obvious means by which Word integrates with the Web is the Web toolbar, shown in Figure 29-1. As an experienced Word user, you're probably familiar with the Web toolbar. It has been around since Microsoft Word 97, and its appearance and functionality haven't changed since its introduction. Primarily, this toolbar is provided as a convenience so that you can access Web pages and browse hyperlinks included in documents displayed in Word.

To open the Web toolbar, choose View, Toolbars, Web. The Web toolbar provides buttons that are frequently found in Web browsers, as follows:
- Back takes you to the previously displayed document. You can display Word documents or Web pages using the Back button.
- Forward takes you to the next document if you've clicked the Back button.
Tip
You can use keyboard shortcuts to move back and forward between pages while surfing the Internet. To move back, press Alt+Left Arrow, and to move forward, press Alt+Right Arrow. - Stop stops the current page loading process.
- Refresh reloads the currently displayed page in Word.
- Start Page opens your browser and displays the first page that appears when you open your default Web browser. A start page can be a Web site or a local file on your hard disk or network.
- Search The Web opens your browser and loads the default search page.
- Favorites opens your Favorites list, which can contain local files and folders as well as locations on networks and the Internet. This list is the same Favorites list available to you from within Internet Explorer.
- Go provides a drop-down menu with options that enable you to open a hyperlink, move back or forward, display the start or search page, and set the default start or search page to the currently displayed page.
- Show Only Web Toolbar maximizes your viewing area by hiding all toolbars except the Web toolbar and the menu bar. When you'd like to redisplay the hidden toolbars, click the Show Only Web Toolbar button again.
- Address lets you enter a local or an online path name to access information. You can click the Address down arrow to display the same history list links that are available from the Internet Explorer Address box.
Tip - Specify a Start Page
You can control which Web page opens when you click the Start Page button by configuring your browser's start page settings. For example, in Internet Explorer, you control your start page by choosing Tools, Internet Options and then configuring the Home Page section on the General tab in the Internet Options dialog box.
