The multilanguage support inWord comes to you courtesy of the Microsoft Office XP Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI), which is available for Windows 98, NT 4.0, or Windows 2000. You'll find the Multilingual User Interface Pack on its own CD in your Microsoft Office package; the Pack has its own installation utility that you can use to setup the languages for use with Word. After you install the MUI Pack, you'll be able to use the following features:

The multilanguage support in Office XP has been streamlined and included in a way that makes installing and working with multiple languages a nearly seamless experience for the end user. In past versions of Word, you had to rely on Windows installation to provide multilanguage features. Now Office XP not only includes the Multilingual User Interface, but it employs a setup wizard to help you install the languages you want to use.

Word makes use of Unicode text for multilanguage documents. Unicode is a standard way of storing text characters that provides for more than one byte for each character, enabling you to use a single character set to represent all languages.
