| We've covered most of the commands from the Type menu in our discussion of the Character and Paragraph palettes in the first part of this chapter; Chapter 24, "Understanding the InDesign Interface and Tools," offers an overview of the Type menu. Here is a more detailed look at some of the options that are in the Type menu: Glyphs: The Glyphs command opens the Glyphs palette, which shows all available characters for the chosen font. To insert a character in your text, insert the text cursor where you want the character to appear and then double-click the glyph in the Glyphs palette. Story: The Story palette has only one option: turning on Optical Margin Alignment. This option creates hanging punctuation in your document; that is, if a line starts with a quote mark or any other character that is not a letter, the line is moved out so the letters align more closely on a vertical line (see Figure 27.8). Insert Special Character, Insert White Space, Insert Break Character: These selections open submenus of various non-keyboard characters, enabling you to insert them in your document quickly.
