A funny question indeed. However, it is addressed here to make the point that unless your process, in your organization, is at this level, the need for improvement is there, and it is up to you to initiate it. Thus, the following are characteristics of ideal process control:

• Effects of critical process variables on all important properties are known.

• Control limits on critical process variables are established and known to all operators.

• Suppliers' raw materials are controlled tightly and exhibit only random variations.

• If there is a significant shift in raw material, operator knows which process variable to change and by how much.

• Little quality assurance and little quality control testing is required on important properties.

• Uniformity of important properties is the best in the industry.

• Percentage of grade ( strictly speaking, this is waste ” unintended function) = 0.
