Customizing Menus

Click the View menu. The short menu appears by default. Click outside of the menu to close it.

Double-click the View menu to display the full menu. Click the Ruler command, which wasn't visible in the short menu.

Click the View menu again. The Ruler command is now included in the short menu because you just used it.

To turn off personal menus, open the Tools menu and choose Customize .

INTRODUCTION Word assumes that you want to use its personal menus feature. When this feature is enabled, clicking a menu name displays a short menu that contains only the commands you use frequently. Word gives you three ways to expand the menu to display all of its commands. (You learned two ways in the previous task, and you'll learn the third here.) In this task, you practice using personal menus, and you learn how to turn off the feature if you'd rather see the full menus by default.

Click the Options tab.

Click the Always show full menus check box to put a check mark in it.

Click the Close button.

Open the View menu a final time. Now the full menu appears by default.
