Running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
After attaching a Plug and Play device, you might see a message indicating that Windows has recognized the new device. (If you have installed the device while your computer was turned off, this message appears at the start of your next Windows session. If your computer was on at the time you connected the device, the message simply pops up on your desktop.) If Windows needs a driver that it doesn't currently have, you might be prompted to insert a disk or the Windows CD.
NOTE
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to install the driver files for a device, a task that Plug and Play attempts during installation of a new device. If the files already exist on your computer, any user can install a device with the assistance of Plug and Play.
If you don't see a message and your new device is working fine, assume that all is well. If you don't see a message and your device doesn't seem to be working, use Add/Remove Hardware in Control Panel to let Windows know you've installed something new.
