ADO as a common set of objects for connecting to and working with a database is fairly unique. Remember that ADO can work with any database that supports OLE DB and the code is always the same, so you have a common set of objects for working with a range of databases.

PHP does not really have anything like this; the closest it has is the ADODB library (covered later in this chapter). However, ADO, as you shall discover, is fully useable from PHP.
