AutoCAD 2004. One Step at a Time (Part 1)

Overview

Following this lesson, you will:

We can define drafting as the placing of geometric shapes on paper to represent existing or proposed objects. Of course we're using a computer rather than the traditional paper or vellum medium, but the results are the same.

All geometric shapes can be formed by the constructive use of two simple objects “ lines and circles. Did you know that, in a CAD environment, a drafter spends only about 30% of his time placing lines and circles? He spends the vast majority of his time modifying what he has drawn and placing text on the drawing. Still, without a basic knowledge of placing lines and circles, the drafter will never leave the starting gate.

We'll begin this lesson learning to use the most basic geometric shape with which we can work “ the line. (We'll save circles for Lesson 4.) Then we'll explore the coordinate system AutoCAD uses to identify locations within the drawing.
