This book by Craig Hunt was published in 2001 and is rated very highly. I learned more from spending 10 minutes skimming it in the bookstore than I did from the dozens of hours I spent trying unsuccessfully to find answers to my questions in O'Reilly's Sendmail book. Hunt's book explains how to use all of Sendmail's features to block spamming, and also has a chapter on security and authentication.
