Selecting a Version
At the time of writing, there are two major versions of DotNetNuke, each targeting a different version of the .NET Framework:

DotNetNuke v3.x, directed at ASP.NET 1.1

DotNetNuke v4.x, aimed at ASP.NET 2.0
Each is functionally identical and your choice of version is dependent on your infrastructure (version of .NET Framework) and chosen development environment (Visual Studio 2003 versus Visual Studio 2005).
