Each ProLiant server line is divided into three series classifications. Each series is defined by performance level and server availability. Figure 9-7 shows the relationship between performance and availability and how it relates to the series designation.

9.3.1 100 Series

The 100 series offers an affordable server optimized for

  • Clustered solutions for high-performance technical computing applications.

  • Demanding workloads.

  • Very large memory applications.

9.3.2 300 Series

The servers in the 300 series are best suited to performing applications, such as

  • File/print and domain servers.

  • Web server functions.

  • Small databases and infrastructure applications.

9.3.3 500 Series

The servers in the 500 series offer increased levels of availability and performance, making them ideal for

  • Complex Web applications.

  • Large databases.

  • Critical file server applications.

9.3.4 700 Series

The servers in the 700 series offer the maximum in performance and availability, which enables them to handle

  • Very large databases.

  • Server consolidation solutions.

  • Multi-application environments.
