The following types of configuration and deployment information exist in the web application deployment descriptor:

  • ServletContext init parameters

  • Session configuration

  • Servlet/JSP definitions

  • Servlet/JSP mappings

  • Mime type mappings

  • Welcome file list

  • Error pages

  • Security

All of these types of information are conveyed in the deployment descriptor (see Chapter SRV.13, "Deployment Descriptor").
