This section talks about some of the practical considerations involved in running an AAD. It does so under two headings:

  • Who should come.

  • What you will need.

Who should come

The leader Should be from outside the project, if not the organization.

Up to four analysts/designers These would be from the IS/IT department or software engineering organization as appropriate.

Up to four clients Generally one would expect to see more of these than analysts/ designers. For the development of an IS/IT system, they would ideally represent different levels of potential user from operational personnel up to management. For the development of a commercial product a mixture of marketing, sales and potential target customers would probably make sense.

The project leader If he is not already included among the group of analysts/ designers or clients.

The technical scribe A person with a good knowledge of analysis and design. Also, should be able to use a word processor!

What you will need

The room

  • Ideally offsite

  • Windows “ really important

  • Walls to tape or pin to

  • 24- hour availability

  • No telephones

  • Big tables to work at

  • Comfortable chairs

  • Refreshments. Away from the room is probably better, light lunches and no wine

Equipment

  • White or blackboards . A whiteboard that photocopies would be perfect

  • 2 “3 flipcharts and plenty of pens

  • Overhead projector and screen

  • Photocopier

  • PC

  • Laser printer

  • Word processor

  • Spreadsheet

  • Project planning tool

  • Software for producing slides/overheads

  • Fax machine (possibly)

Miscellaneous

  • Stapler

  • Highlighters

  • Paperclips

  • Scissors

  • Hole punch

  • Pads and pens/pencils

  • Sellotape
