INTRODUCTION

Typing a site's address is the fastest way to get to that site. An address, or URL (uniform resource locator), consists of the protocol (usually http:// ) www, and the domain name (something like nba.com). The domain name might also include a path (a list of folders) to the document. The extension (usually .com, .net, .gov, .edu, or .mil) indicates the type of site (commercial, network resources, government, educational, or military, respectively).

If you have typed a specific address before, you can type only its first few letters ; Internet Explorer will display the rest.
