CCNP CIT Exam Cram 2 (Exam Cram 642-831)

Chapter 6. IPX/SPX

Terms you'll need to understand:

  • Get Nearest Server (GNS)

  • IPX EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol)

  • Internetwork packet exchange (IPX)

  • IPX Routing Information Protocol (IPX RIP)

  • IPX/SPX (IPX/ sequenced packet exchange)

  • NetWare Link Services Protocol (NLSP)

  • Service Advertising Protocol (SAP)

Techniques you'll need to master:

  • Recognize problem symptoms that relate to IPX.

  • Know the inner workings of Novell IPX.

  • Understand and know how to troubleshoot SAP.

  • Know how GNS messages work and when they are used.

  • Configure and troubleshoot IPX access lists.

  • Know the advantages and disadvantages of RIP and NLSP.

  • Know how to use IPX troubleshooting commands.

There are many legacy technologies that linger in today's networks, and you need to know how to manage and troubleshoot them. Novell's IPX/SPX protocols are some of those protocols. For the CCNP exam, you need to know more about troubleshooting commands than you do about the commands used to configure NetWare protocols. This chapter will give you an overview of NetWare's routing protocols, and the connection sequences and the diagnostic tools that relate to troubleshooting in an IPX (internetwork packet exchange) environment.
