For reading this book, you can mainly ignore the binary version of IP addresses. However, if you intend to learn more about IP, you will certainly want to know how to work with IP addresses in their binary format. This appendix explained the basics of binary numbering, how to convert back and forth between binary and decimal, as well as how to convert back and forth between the decimal and binary formats of IP addresses.
