Preface

For readability sake, the default $ prompt is used in the examples in this publication. Control characters are given as Ctl followed by the character in boldface. For example, Ctl-d specifies Control-d and is entered by pressing the d key while holding down the Control key. Special keys, like carriage-return and backspace, are enclosed in < >'s. Long command lines are continued onto the next line using the \ character.
