This chapter has offered a taste of some of the more advanced capabilities of Visual Basic .NET. When you implement mission critical applications, the services provided by Windows Messaging and COM+ can be invaluable. There is much more to both of these subjects than I've been able to cover here, but you should now have a basic grasp of the technologies.

Security is a major part of enterprise-level and mission-critical applications, so I would expect that you noticed its absence here. This is for several reasons, not least of which is that security is a complex issue that requires a lot of discussion. The next chapter deals more with general security issues.
