Introducing AutoCAD 2008

You can quickly get the status of many drawings settings using the Status command. This command displays the current settings for limits, snaps, and grids, the display area, and other features. This information can help you understand a drawing or help troubleshoot a problem. Here's how it works:

  1. Choose Tools è Inquiry è Status, or enter Status↲ at the command prompt.

  2. The Text window displays a listing of the current status of the drawing, as shown in Figure 11.6.

Table 11.1 lists the options shown by the Status command and their meaning.

(Number) Objects In D:\Folder\Subfolder

The number of AutoCAD objects in the drawing.

Model Space Limits Are

The coordinates of the Model tab limits. (See Chapter 2 for more details about limits.)

Model Space Uses

The area the drawing occupies; equivalent to Zoom extents.

**Over:

If present, this item means that part of the drawing is outside the area defined by the drawing limits.

Display Shows

The area shown by the current view.

Insertion Base Is, Snap Resolution Is, and Grid Spacing Is

The current default values for these settings.

Current Space

Model (model space) or Layout (paper space) tab.

Current Layout

The current tab.

Current Layer

The current layer.

Current Color

The current color.

Current Linetype

The current linetype.

Current Material

The current 3D modeling material.

Current Lineweight

The current line weight setting.

Current Elevation/ Thickness

The current default Z coordinate and the current thickness of objects. These are both 3D-related settings.

Fill, Grid, Ortho, Qtext, Snap, and Tablet

The status of these settings.

Object Snap Modes

The current default osnap setting.

Free Dwg Disk (Drive:) Space

The amount of space available to store drawing-specific temporary files.

Free Temp Disk (Drive:) Space

The amount of space left on your hard drive for AutoCAD's resource temporary files.

Free Physical Memory

The amount of free RAM available.

Free Swap File Space

The amount of Windows swap file space available.
