Change the frequency of a repeating event. Remember to specify an end date if you have one.

Set reminders

Recurring events can help you stick to some helpful routines.

  • Set a weekly event reminder to update your Tasks lists or enter new contacts.

  • Set a monthly reminder to clear your handheld of applications or info you no longer need.

  • Set biannual events to catch up on taxes and review investments.

If your staff meeting is the first Wednesday of the month or your fencing team practices twice a week, no problem. The powerful repeat options in Calendar upstage paper planners by making sure you won't forget. Enter an appointment just once, no matter how many times it'll be repeated.

Use symbols to find events

Say you want to keep track of whose turn it is to buy lunch. Assign a unique symbol in the title field that's easy to write, such as an asterisk (), and add it every time you pick up the check. Then use Find to see all those lunches in chronological order.

Save time with custom ShortCuts

Do you meet with the same person in the same place often, but not regularly enough to make it a recurring event? Make a ShortCut for the text you always write. For example: replace "Lunch with Bob at Jim's Coffee Shop" with the ShortCut bob. For more about ShortCuts, see page 42.

Create a recurring event4

Schedule a recurring event

Daily or ongoing

Use this option to mark events that stretch over several days, such as conferences or long vacations. To create such an event, go to the Event Details screen, select Repeat > Daily until, and tap the end date.

Weekly

Keep track of weekly classes, favorite TV shows, or Sunday movie nights. Choose Every week or Every other week from the Event Details screen, or select Other for other intervals.

Monthly

Some events happen on the same date every month, while others might occur on the first Monday or third Thursday of each month. To schedule such an event from the Event Details screen, select Repeat > Other and tap the appropriate selections until the box displays the interval you want.

Yearly

Select Yearly to remember anniversaries or a tax deadline. (Contacts has an even better way to remember birthdays see page 51.)

Real Life: Calendar

Carmela's regular one-on-one meeting with her boss started out every other Tuesday, but her boss kept changing the day to fit his own schedule. It used to drive her crazy, and her day planner was a mess of crossed-out events. Now she uses the Repeat > Other function in the Event Details dialog box. When her boss changes the meeting to Friday morning, her Calendar automatically reschedules the event.

Alarms for untimed events

Some events, like your neighbor's open house or your nephew's graduation, may not yet have specific times. You can still set a reminder alarm for them. The reminder list displays the alarm message until you clear it. Alarms for untimed events go off at midnight.
