Adobe Digital Video How-Tos: 100 Essential Techniques with Adobe Production Studio

#65 Producing Matte Effects with Titles

This one is kind of a gimme, but it's such a fun effect that it deserves its own space. Figure 65 shows a title used as a matte to reveal the river in the background video through the text.

Figure 65. I love this effect!

To create the effect in Premiere Pro, do the following:

1.

Build your title in a font with wide letters (Gill Sans Ultra Bold in the example). If the font color is white, the text will be completely translucent; darkening the text to darker shades of gray reduces the transparency (the example uses white text).

2.

Save the title as normal, and drag it over the desired background video.

3.

Follow the instruction described in #52 to produce the keying effect.
