Macromedia Dreamweaver 8: Training from the Source
As you work in Dreamweaver, you will sometimes need to use characters that you can't access directly from the keyboard. These special characters have specific HTML codes or alternative keyboard commands that might be difficult to remember.
The Characters menu can be accessed by clicking the black arrow to the right of the icon. The © (copyright) character is inserted in the new line when you click the icon in the characters menu. Like other menus in the Insert bar, the icon that represents the Characters menu will change based on what item was last selected in the menu. Note You might receive a warning that special characters might not appear in all browsers depending on the encoding of your document. Changing the encoding is discussed in the next exercise.
Macintosh Users: If you do not see the Characters icon/menu in the Text category of the Insert bar, you might need to enlarge the Insert bar. To do so, click and drag the lower-right corner to extend the bar horizontally. Note Although the Characters menu in the Text category of the Insert bar gives you quick access to many of the most common characters you might need, it doesn't provide an all-encompassing list. If the character you want to use isn't available in the Characters menu, you can still find it by clicking the Other Characters option at the bottom of the menu or by choosing Insert > HTML > Special Characters > Other. When you select a character in the Insert Other Character dialog box, the corresponding HTML code appears in the text field at the upper-left corner of the dialog box. After you click the character that you want to use, click OK.
