You know how to change your Timeline view; now let's focus on organizing the project. Your goal in this exercise is to organize the project to make it easier to add more media files. First, you'll add two new layers; then you'll rename them. You add and rename layers on the Timeline tab the same as you do on the Layers tab. It's also a good idea to resize the Timing pane while you're organizing the layers.
To resize the Timing pane, you simply drag the top edge of the pane.
1. | Move the pointer over the top edge of the Timing pane until the cursor changes from an arrow to the Resize tool.

2. | Drag the top edge of the Timing pane upward to create a larger Timeline workspace. Notice that the Canvas window gets smaller to accommodate the larger Timing pane. |
3. | Click the Add new layer button (+) at the upper left of the Timeline tab to add a new layer to the Layer list.

4. | Repeat step 3 to add another new layer. |
5. | Double-click the name field for each layer and rename all three layers, from top to bottom, as Text, Stills, and Video.
Now that the layers have been created and named, let's move the various elements to the appropriate layers to organize the project. You can move objects in the Layer list on the Timeline tab the same way you did on the Layers tab in the Project pane. |
6. | Move the Time Oakley text object from the Video layer up to the Text layer.

7. | Click the time_bomb object to select it; then Cmd-click the detonator_stealth_trans object to select it along with the first object.

8. | Drag the selected objects from the Video layer up to the Stills layer. |
9. | Click the disclosure triangles for each layer to collapse them and hide the contents. |
10. | Resize the Timing pane so it's just slightly taller than the three tracks. |
11. | Press Cmd-S to save your progress. Your project is now organized and ready for you to add more media. NOTE It is not necessary to organize a project before you add media or move elements in the Timeline. Organization just makes the process a little easier in the long run. |
