You've added an object to your project; let's look at the changes that have occurred on the Layers tab.

First, though, what is a layer? A layer is like a vessel that contains objects in your project. Layers can contain an entire project or just part of a project. In this case, you're building the background layer for a project, so the goal is to include all of the background objects in the background layer.

The name of a layer always appears underlined. The names of the contents within a layer are not underlined and appear indented (farther to the right), in contrast to the name of the layer itself.

Press Cmd-4 to open the Layers tab.

Notice how objects that are on the layers appear different from the layers themselves.

The Globe Corner movie appears below the layer, and the name Globe Corner is indented to the right of the underlined word Layer above it. The Preview column on the Layers tab shows a thumbnail of the object. You can resize the thumbnails and the height of the rows using the Scale slider at the bottom of the Project pane.

At the bottom of the Layers tab, drag the Scale slider toward the right to make the thumbnail image and rows larger.

Now that you've seen how an object appears on a layer on the Layers tab, let's move on to the Media tab.
