How you score a movie depends greatly on the scope of the project. Feature film scores often require composers, large recording stages, and a full orchestra of musicians. Smaller projects, such as training videos, corporate projects, or home movies, can easily be scored using GarageBand 3.

Not only can you create your own music for your iMovies and QuickTime-compatible video files, but you can also choose from hundreds of finished musical pieces and sound effects to complete the soundtrack.

In Lessons 1 and 2, you worked with an original musical score that was recorded and arranged in GarageBand, then added the Alaska video clip to go with the song. In this lesson, you'll try the opposite approach and import a finished video, then create a soundtrack from scratch using some of the musical pieces and sound effects that come with GarageBand 3. Along the way, you'll also add and label chapter markers that will be used in iDVD when you export the finished piece. You'll also learn how to place sound effects at your fingertips as you design your own Musical Typing instrument track and save the customized settings.
