Every Virtual Partition has separate startup and shutdown scripts just as you would have separate scripts on individual systems. There isn't any unique activity that takes place from a startup and shutdown standpoint due to Virtual Partitions; however, since each vPar is running its own HP-UX, you can customize the startup and shutdown to meet the needs of the applications you're running in each vPar. In addition, there is a heartbeat deamon that is used to synchronize the Virtual Partition database every few seconds. Let's take a look at an application running in a vPar and the startup and shutdown procedures employed to support this application. In addition we'll view the the means by which the heartbeat deamon is started and stopped to synchronize the Virtual Partition database. |
