6.6 RS232 STANDARD

The RS232 interface (commonly known as a serial port) is used in embedded systems as well as to connect PC modems. The RS232 standard specifies a data rate of 19.2kbps, but higher data rates are supported in most PCs, speeds up to 115kbps are common. Most controllers and digital signal processors support the serial port. In RS232 communication, binary 0 is represented by +V volts and binary 1 is represented by -V volts.

In RS232, 0 is represented by +V volts and 1 is represented by -V volts.
