Maximum Mac OS X Security

IN THIS CHAPTER

Mac OS X, both Server and Client, ship with the world's most popular (and arguably powerful) Web server: Apache. Unfortunately, neither distribution of the operating system provides configuration control beyond the most cursory setup. In cases where a static Web site is being served , you likely don't need anything beyond the simple on/off OS X controls; but as soon as you venture into the realm of serving dynamic information or providing Intranet services, you'll need to learn the ins and outs of your Web server software. This chapter introduces you to the Apache security model, SSL support, and provides the information you need to take your server far beyond what is possible with Apple's included pushbutton controls.
