Mac OS X can share files and resources with other machines through a variety of mechanisms, such as AppleShare, Samba, and CUPS. Resource sharing opens a system to misuse: Servers such as CUPS and AppleShare open your computer's file system and peripherals to the world. Apple has provided very few controls over the Mac OS X file and resource sharing, leaving advanced setup and security to those willing to dig beyond the interface.
