A majority of this text (Chapters 7 “16) have dealt with network services and attacks. It stands to reason that a solution should exist for dealing with controlling network access in general ”and it does, in the form of a firewall. A firewall is a device or piece of software that blocks network packets before they can reach server daemons. Rather than managing access for individual processes, a firewall provides a central point for controlling network traffic across the board.
