Doing Business with China

Mr. Shi Yonghai, a distinguished senior researcher in the field of international trade in China, is now the Chairman of China Association of International Trade. Previously, he was President of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC), the largest research organization under the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC). He was also the Minister Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Section of the Chinese Embassy to Japan between 1990 and 1994.

Shi Yonghai has long been engaged in the research of international trade, particularly research and studies on the Japanese economy and issues regarding China's foreign trade and economic cooperation. He also participated as a leader in a number of important research projects, of which the latest included 'ISO 14000 and China's Foreign Trade', and environment- and trade- related issues in APEC countries . In addition, Shi Yonghai has been involved in researching key issues regarding China's effort to further open up and develop China's foreign trade and economic cooperation. Most recently, based on his research on the environment and trade issues, Shi Yonghai has initiated for the first time the concept of 'environmental competitiveness of products'. This concept has extended conventional theory on product competitiveness and has important implications both in theory and practice.

Liu Baocheng is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean at the School of International Business Management of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), Beijing, China. He also serves as dean of the Sino-US School of International Management, which is a partnership between UIBE and the University of Maryland's Rober H. Smith School of Business. At the same time, Liu Baocheng also holds a deanship at the Sino-French School of International Business Management. His area of research and teaching covers a variety of disciplines including marketing, cross-cultural negotiation and business law. His most recent publications include the translation of the Blackwell Encyclopedia of Business Ethics and English for Business Negotiations .

Besides his research and teaching experiences, Liu Baocheng has worked in the management of London Export Corporation, Union Merchant Overseas Corporation and Cathay Trading Ltd. He is still in active business executive positions with Unigene Laboraroty Inc., Herborium Inc. and Novark Consulting. His hands-on business experiences cover international trade, joint venture management and marketing research. He worked as senior research fellow for the Institute of International Business at Seton Hall University in the United States for four years and served as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall and Montclair State University. He has been a speaker at various renowned academic and corporate institutions and in media. These include China Central Party University, China University of Central Administration, Citibank, BASF, OTIS, Schneider, Voice of America and China Central Television (CCTV).
