Doing Business with China
In 2000, the total value of imports and exports increased by 38.8 per cent, from US$8.392 billion in the previous year to US$11.651 billion. The total value of exports increased by 41.8 per cent to US$4.627 billion (15.57 per cent of the city's GDP and 1.86 per cent of China's total export value). Export of primary products and manufactured products amounted to US$278 million and US$4348 million respectively, or 6 per cent and 94 per cent of China's total export value. Commodities were exported to 179 countries and regions . Changes in key export destinations over the last five years are shown in Table 7.1.2.
Import value totalled US$7.024 billion in 2000, up 36.8 per cent on US$5.181 billion in 1999. Import of primary products and manufactured products amounted to US$376 million and US$6.648 billion respectively; 5.4 per cent and 94.6 per cent of the total import value.
