Anhui province received US$636.02 million of foreign direct investment in 247 projects in 2000. Equity joint ventures sharply decreased while contractual and solely foreign-owned ventures recorded significant increases in terms of total contract value (see Table 7.12.4).

Among the foreign direct investment projects approved in 2000, 182 were production-orientated with a total contract value of US$429.95 million, while 65 were in service industries and had a contract value of US$206.07 million. China's Hong Kong and Taiwan provinces were the two largest sources of investment in terms of total contract value (see Table 7.12.5).

In 2000, the export value of FIEs reached US$400 million, up by 37.1 per cent over US$291 million in 1999. Their share in the province's total export value rose from 17.4 per cent in 1999 to 18.5 per cent.
