The total import and export value of Hunan Province reached US$2.512 billion in 2000, an increase of 28.45 per cent over US$1.956 billion in 1999.The total export value was US$1.653 billion, up by 28.93 per cent compared with US$1.282 billion in 1999 and equal to 5.08 per cent of the province 's GDP of RMB269.188 billion (US$32.55 billion) and 0.66 per cent of the country's total export value (see Table 7.18.2).

Export of primary products was US$187.59 million, making up 11.35 per cent of total export value. Export of manufactured goods totalled US$1.465 billion, accounting for 88.65 per cent of the total export value.

Total import value was US$859.51 million, up by 27.52 per cent compared with US$673.94 million in 1999. Import of primary products accounted for US$167.35 million, or 19.47 per cent of total import value. Import of manufactured goods was US$692.16 million, accounting for 80.53 per cent of the total import value. Among the imports of manufactured products, mechanical and electronic products totalled US$515.12 million, accounting for 59.53 per cent of total import value (see Table 7.18.3).
