Overview

Bordering the South China Sea, Guangdong is one of the southernmost provinces in China. Mountains cover 33 per cent of the entire territory, hilly areas 25 per cent, plains 23 per cent and tableland 19 per cent. It has a coastline of more than 4,300 kilometres and a total area of 179,756 square kilometres. The population is 77.83 million and the provincial capital is Guangzhou. Major economic indicators are shown in Table 7.19.1.
