COBOL and Visual Basic on .NET: A Guide for the Reformed Mainframe Programmer

This chapter's goals were as follows :

In this chapter you learned about several deployment considerations. Several new concepts were introduced: obfuscation, the Global Assembly Cache (GAC), and strong naming, to name a few. These new concepts supported the manual versus automated deployment discussion.

From there, you walked through several demonstrations that provided you with a solid understanding of how to use the Windows Installer in VS .NET. Toward the end of the chapter, you briefly explored both the XCOPY and Copy Project deployment approaches. As part of that section, you saw a demonstration of a basic IIS configuration task: the creation of a virtual directory.

In the next chapter you will explore the topics of .NET configuration and security.
