Customizing Windows XP: Visual QuickProject Guide

In Windows XP, pressing the right mouse button (known as right-clicking) will open a menu known as a shortcut menu. Many customizations in this book begin by bringing up a shortcut menu.

Not all shortcut menus are the same, however. What the shortcut menu looks like depends on what the cursor is pointing to when you right-click.

Try right-clicking on different objects: files, the Taskbar, items in the Start menu, title bars of windows, and even empty space on the Desktop. The shortcut menu that appears will have options specific to the object you are pointing to.

Shortcut menus present options that you can also get to from various menus and toolbars throughout Windows. The shortcut menu is usually the quickest way to access these options.
