| Place Files and Folders p. 48 | Did you know that the documents and shortcut files on the Desktop actually sit inside a folder called, well, Desktop? It's in the Documents and Settings folder, inside a folder named after your user name. Add an item to the Desktop folder and it appears on the Desktop. Have you ever wanted easy access to a small portion of a file? You don't have to create a new documentjust create a scrap. To create a scrap, simply select some texta paragraph, sentence, or phraseand drag it from the document window to the Desktop. A new file is created that has an icon with a jagged bottom. Cleanup the Desktop p. 52 Another way to quickly access your Desktop icons is with a key command. You can press Windows-D to minimize all of the open windows at the same time. This technique will even minimize windows that don't have a minimize button, such as dialog boxes and the Control Panel. Pressing Windows-D again will restore all of the windows you just minimizedunless you've opened, minimized, or restored any windows since hitting the command. If that's the case, Windows-D will only work on the last window you worked with. |
