The .NET Framework contains several well-developed controls that are ready for use on a Windows Form. Some of these controls are making their first appearance within a Microsoft technology base, whereas others have been around since the advent of Windows itself. Even with a large constituent of common controls that have gone through iterative changes for technological adaptability, sometimes a control still just doesn't do what you need it to do.

This chapter details various situations that might arise when you create new controls to use within a Windows Form application. It shows the differences between the different control types from controls based on an already defined control to a user control that performs custom rendering.
