Photoshop CS Savvy
Eye Candy 4000 is a set of 23 special-effects filters from Alien Skin Software. They can be found on the Web at www.alienskin.com.
Eye Candy 4000 contains improved Eye Candy 3 filters, plus several new ones. Some Eye Candy 3 filters have been combined into single, new Eye Candy 4000 filters.
Getting Started
Eye Candy 4000 contains setup programs for both Macintosh and Windows. It attempts to locate known graphics programs and allow installation for any program it recognizes. When it doesn t recognize a program (such as a too new version of Photoshop), you can manually select it to be installed in its own subdirectory for Windows under the Plug-Ins subdirectory in your Photoshop directory.
After it is correctly installed, restart Photoshop and you should see the list of Eye Candy filters in the Filter menu (see Figure A.1).
The Filters
To show the transformations performed by Eye Candy 4000, a simple graphic of letters with a gradient fill has been created (see Figure A.2). This Normal graphic is the starting point for the following transformations, and has both white and black backgrounds to better highlight some features.
Antimatter
The Antimatter filter inverts a selection, but gives more control over a simple Photoshop invert. Adjustments allow tweaking of the inversion for better results. One use is for creating dramatic rollover images.
Bevel Boss
Bevel Boss enables you to create a wide variety of beveled images.
Chrome
Chrome does what the name says. Using a variety of textures and options, a wide range of shiny metal effects are easily created.
Corona
Corona easily creates the effect of solar flares, gaseous clouds, and other astronomical effects around your selections.
Cutout
Cutout creates the effect of cutting out your selection, complete with shadowing. Here I cut through the black layer to reveal the white layer below.
Drip
This filter does what it says, with a wide variety of options to control the final results.
Fire
Set your image on fire for dramatic effect.
Fur
Fuzzy, wavy, or curly. Long or short, it s up to you.
Glass
Create the effect of transparent or colored glass over a selection.
Gradient Glow
Create mild to wild gradients around selections. There are many options for every situation.
HSB Noise
HSB Noise enables you to add textures based on the underlying image. It s easy to use, and the results are hard to duplicate with standard tools.
Jiggle
Distort entire selections far more than you can easily do with Photoshop alone.
Marble
Create marble textures in a variety of colors, sizes, and features.
Melt
This one does what you expect, with a variety of different settings available.
Motion Trail
This filter provides dramatic variations on motion blurs. Create your own roadrunner effects.
Shadowlab
This provides far more flexible shadowing ”including perspective shadowing ”than you can achieve using layer styles.
Smoke
Heat up your presentations with some smoke. It also creates haze, fog, and fume effects.
Squint
Blur the areas outside your selection to create the effect of poor vision.
Star
Create all kinds of stars quickly and easily.
Swirl
Smear your selection with randomly placed whirlpools for an amazing variety of texture effects.
Water Drops
Apply water drops to your image more easily than leaving it out in the rain.
Weave
Weave re-creates a selection, giving a woven appearance.
Wood
Turn a selection to wood with great control over rings, knots, and grain.
