Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 Studio Techniques

When you add a transition between two clips, you are defining a method through which one shot moves into another. Your transitions can start at, end at, or be centered on a cut point, plus they can be applied to all tracks. If there is content on Video 3 that can be enhanced by transitioning to another track, then by all means exploit that. The ability to have six titles fading one into the other and not have them populate two separate tracks (as in former versions of Premiere) is an excellent preservation of timeline real estate.

Although you don't need to completely understand all the adjustment tools in the Effect Controls panel just yet, I encourage you to experiment with some adjustments and get used to having the panel open while you work in the timeline. While you play, be sure to pay attention to the power and importance of the Ripple Edit tool, which is used to edge trim clip material when a transition is joining two clips together.

In the next chapter, you will explore the Effect Controls panel in a different context: effect adjustments.
