As discussed in Chapter 2, certain hardware devices, including modems and network adapters, have problems working with certain programs and Windows versions. If you search for support articles (see Chapter 11), be sure to specify the modem brand and model number, or the chipset's identifying information.
Some ISPs require a terminal window to be called up to log on to the Internet. Hyperterminal, discussed in the modem troubleshooting section of Chapter 8, is a terminal program. When setting up a connection to this type of ISP, you'll notice a check box on one of the wizard pages that will call up a terminal window. Select it. The ISP should be able to provide instructions.
