With the increasing amount of Acrobat users, document security has become ever more important. When creating a PDF file, you can choose to set restrictions on whether the file can be opened, edited, or printed. Protection of your PDF files is done using a password, a certificate, or Adobe Policy Server.

KEY TERM

Digital signature A unique digital identifier that enables a user to certify that a document has been created, reviewed, or approved. Digital signatures are used in much the same way that handwritten signatures are used.

In addition to adding security to a PDF document, secure digital signatures can be included. By using a certified signature, you can rest assured that your original PDF is not changed without your consent . You can create a digital ID for signing with Acrobat or use a third-party signature provider such as VeriSign.

NOTE

VeriSign and Entrust are the two main providers Adobe recommends for using when creating a digital signature. Learn more by going to VeriSign (www.verisign.com) or Entrust (www. entrust .com).
