You can bring PowerPoint files into Keynote in two ways. You can simply open the file, or you can drag the PowerPoint file onto the Keynote application icon.

To open PowerPoint files

1.

In Keynote, choose File > Open.

The Open dialog appears ( Figure 10.5 ).

Find the PowerPoint file that you want to open, and select it in the list.

3.

Click Open.

Keynote imports and opens the file as an untitled document.

Tips

  • If you open the Master Slides Organizer, you'll see that imported PowerPoint files only come with as many master slides as are used in the imported presentation ( Figure 10.6 ). To add on to the presentation with a different master slide, you'll have to either apply a Keynote theme, or create your own master slides that match the imported presentation.

  • Keynote 2 does an even better job of opening and translating PowerPoint files, but there is a trade-off. Keynote 2 is much slower at converting the PowerPoint file than its predecessor. In fact, sometimes it can appear as if Keynote has frozen up during the import process. Be patient, and you will be rewarded.

To import PowerPoint files by dragging and dropping

1.

In the Finder, find the PowerPoint file that you want to open.

2.

Drag the PowerPoint file's icon onto the Keynote application icon inside your Applications folder.

or

If Keynote is running, drag the Power Point file's icon onto the Keynote icon in the Dock.

Keynote imports and opens the file as an untitled document.
