Cisco IP Telephony Users

This chapter covers the following topics:

  • Using Cisco CallManager Administration to add users and associate users with a device
  • Logging in to the Cisco CallManager User Options web page and selecting a device to personalize
  • Activating or subscribing typical user options from the User Options web pages, such as call forwarding, speed dial configuration, and CallManager services
  • Creating personal address books in the Cisco CallManager User Options web page of stored names and numbers and assigning Fast Dial codes to personal address book entries to enable users to dial those codes in place of telephone numbers
  • Describing how to change the way that the voice-message light on the handset works when a user receives a voice-mail message
  • Describing how to change the language for the Cisco CallManager User Options web pages or telephone

After you have configured the Cisco CallManager to support the various Cisco IP Phones deployed around your network environment, your next logical step is to configure the IP telephony users. Configuring users for the voice network is not a mandatory step; however, it will ease your network administration load considerably because (with proper training) voice network users can configure their own IP Phones for common features such as speed dials and call forwarding without adding another support call to the help desk group. In addition, Cisco CallManager requires user configuration to support many of the advanced features, such as Cisco Auto Attendant, IP Manager Assistant (IPMA), and Extension Mobility, which are discussed in Chapters 17-19.

This chapter describes the Cisco CallManager configuration to support voice network users. You will learn how to add these users to the Cisco CallManager user database and assign these users access to their respective IP Phone. From there, the chapter discusses the process an end-user would go through to configure their phone through the Cisco CallManager user web pages.
