MPLS Features and Case Studies
This chapter concentrates on the implementation of various features in correlation with MPLS deployments. Layer 3 VPNs, Layer 2 VPNs (AToM), and VPLS are the predominant implementations of MPLS in networks today. However, a large number of features have been introduced in conjunction with MPLS that enable a crisper service delivery to end customers as well as more services that can be revenue generators for service providers (SPs). The following features will be covered by means of case studies in this chapter:
- Multicast VPN support for MPLS VPN
- Multi-VRF CE (with multicast support)
- VRF selection based on source IP address
- VRF selection using policy-based routing
- NAT and HSRP support in MPLS VPN
- Layer 2 VPN pseudo-wire switching
- Providing L3 VPN over L2 VPN circuits with L2 VPN pseudo-wire redundancy
- Implementing dynamic L3 VPN over mGRE tunnels
- Class-based tunnel selection with MPLS TE
- Implementing L3 VPN hub and spoke with OSPF and EIGRP
- VPLS support on the GSR 12000 series routers
- BGP Site-Of-Origin (SOO)
